Introduction

Welcome to the Developer Documentation for Walapay. These docs are intended for developers looking to integrate Walapay's APIs into their business or platform.

What is Walapay?

Walapay is a global money movement platform allowing businesses and developers to collect, hold, and move money across any currency (including fiat and stablecoins) and any country on behalf of their customers. Through Walapay's APIs, developers can:

  • Onboard customers compliantly and monitor ongoing transactions
  • Create virtual bank accounts and digital asset wallets for their customers
  • Send and receive payments on behalf of their customers - across bank transfers, e-wallets, and stablecoins
  • Manage permissions and policies governing accounts and transaction flows

Who Can Use Walapay?

Walapay was built API-first, making it easy for developers to build out financial use cases and integrate payments into their business. We serve two main types of developers:

  • Businesses: Global businesses, payroll companies, etc., making payments to suppliers and contractors.
  • Platforms: Financial institutions, fintechs, PSPs, and marketplaces embedding payment use cases within their apps and platforms.

What Products Does Walapay Offer?

Walapay has three core products:

  1. Virtual Accounts
  2. Payments
  3. Compliance

Virtual Accounts

Walapay enables you to offer virtual multi-currency accounts to your users; they support 10 fiat currencies and 2 stablecoins (USDC/USDT). The fiat accounts are dedicated, named bank accounts held at tier 1 banks with IBANs and local routing codes. These accounts can be programmed to hold funds in their designated currency or automatically liquidate to another currency (e.g, receiving MXN and converting it to USDC).

Payments

Payments are the general term used to describe money movements in Walapay; they include:

  • Fiat to fiat
  • Fiat to stablecoin
  • Stablecoin to fiat
  • Stablecoin to stablecoin

The Payments API is architected to be highly flexible, allowing for first-party and third-party payments (see coverage) and enabling you to choose the payment rails used to effectuate money movements (e.g. local rails vs. wires).

Compliance

Walapay's compliance suite allows you to conduct KYC and KYB on your customers via our API. Walapay handles the verification process, making sure that you are in full compliance of legal requirements.
